This past weekend was an important one for me: I officially became an American citizen! I had to go to an official U.S. court and swear in front of a judge with other future fellow Americans and was given my citizenship certificate! It was silly that I teared up a little when the judge was telling all of us to remember our stories of coming to the U.S. because each one of us has a different reason for being here. When I remembered my story, following my dad, learning a new language from scratch and trying to fit in, I tried holding back the tears because everyone around me shared the same goal of making a new life in a new country. There were people from 74 different countries, although I was the only Brazilian in the room.
Now I am able to vote and receive an American passport, so I can go back to school in Brazil for art direction. Just thought I should share the news with you all with this silly video I made after being confirmed as a citizen. Bring on the hot dogs and fireworks! - Pati
