A RECIPE OF TYPES

whatfonttousecover

As you have seen before, I am a type aficionado. Lately I have been discovering a lot of new fonts (new to me, I’m sure they have been around forever). And I felt that I must share with you what’s in my fridge of fonts. There’s a lot of craze about hand lettering out there and I agree whole heartedly, however, not everyone has the tools needed or the time to come up with Picasso-y work every day.

With typography, you are putting the beauty of a designer’s hard work to use and it will always work, because the type was just designed that way: to work with any letter combination, any color or texture.

Something I love doing is mixing & matching different types – sans serif with serif, lower case with uppercase. There is no rule of thumb here or minimum number of fonts, you have to use your imagination, try EVERYTHING, and be very picky with the results. Above is a quote I adore and I am going to share with you the fonts I used in creating this.

This is just a couple of my favorites. Over the weeks, I will be sharing with you the fonts I’ve been working with lately. So you can start building your own quotes and expand your type palette.

Verlag is such an amazing typeface; along with all of the others on your list! Avenir and Avant Garde are such classics. I could talk about type all day! Great list of amazing fonts.

Love this post, Patch! I just had to install Avenir for a project I’m doing for work, and it’s one of my new favorites.
