FROM MY DESK

cover

I am excited to share with you today a very exciting project (my first one as a freelance designer) that I’ve been working on these past months. Lauren came to me because she decided to start a farm with her, soon-to-be-husband, Kyle. They want to connect people with their food by bringing a face, a story and friendship along with the produce from their organic farm. Lauren had a logo already and my job was to create their visual identity through photography, a new website and postcards.

Below is the moodboard that we worked on. Aesthetically, Lauren had in mind something very earthy, rustic and down-to-earth. Community was a key word for Raleigh’s Hillside Farm. As opposed to just reading a sticker on their produce, Lauren invites people to come up and talk to the people who grow their food. As a result, members will keep an open dialogue about food and learn more about what’s on their plate.

Lauren was bubbly and kind, and she opened the doors to her farm, welcoming me. When I design, one of my biggest goals is to bring to life the business’s personality through color combinations, typography, graphic elements, any visual weapon in my power!

I went to their farm for an afternoon photo shoot, expecting to just come home with pictures, but I left with a full belly and a box of fresh goodies! The perks of working with photography…

Working with these two was such a pleasure, it turns out they’ll use some of the photos I took as their engagement photos ; )

The project turned out great! I love the red. You don’t see much red in organic brands but this seems like a step in the right direction. Congrats on your first project being complete! It only goes up from here.

It looks so good and I really like the pictures that you took of the farm and of them – no wonder they’re going to use some for their engagement shots

Oh, and I know this is kind of silly but I went to the website to find out where they are located and had to search a bit to find out where the farm actually is
