This week we are going to Arizona, but not just anywhere in Arizona – to the Grand Canyon, one of the most beautiful landscapes that I will probably ever see in my lifetime. While I was looking out into the Grand Canyon as I was hiking, I kept thinking, “Is this real?” I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was enormous. We hiked for 3 hours and only went a quarter of the way to the bottom. One day I will hike all the way to the Colorado River – I’ve heard it’s an out-of-this-world experience because there are huge walls that surround you when you look up. But of course, if you go in the summer months don’t forget the dangers of the hot, arid weather and be sure drink lots of water, stay in the shade, and don’t go in the middle of the day like I did.

First of all, if you’re visiting Arizona, you should really try to go during the fall, winter or spring . . or really anytime other than summer because the everyday triple-digit weather may actually ruin the trip of someone with fair skin. Because the sun is so strong everyday, you will naturally need sunglasses, plenty of sunscreen, and  a hat – that’s my holy trinity. Oh, and Arizona has very strong Native American culture that I wasn’t totally used to. You see it everywhere – shops, clothes and posters . . . in other words, you must go back to the American roots!
